Bulgaria's highest ranked tennis player Viktoriya Tomova qualified for the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Seoul, Hana Bank Korea Open, on Thursday. She scored a 7-5 4-1 win over world No. 46 Amanda Anisimova. The American, who reached the Roland Garros semi-final in 2019, was forced to retire due to injury.

In the next round, the Bulgarian will play against world No. 44 Veronika Kudermetova, a former No. 9. Their only previous match was held in Suzhou, China. Tomova won the first set but in the second the Russian retired due to injury.

Tomova is currently No. 54 in the world but is likely to improve her ranking this week.
