Bulgarian chess player Nurgyul Salimova achieved her first victory at the Women's Candidates Tournament 2024 in Toronto, Canada.
In the fourth round of the competition, the Bulgarian won with the white pieces against India's Koneru Humpy. Thus, the 20-year-old Salimova collected an asset of 2 points after one win, two draws and one loss, which earned her a shared third place in the standings.
The winner of the tournament will earn the right to play in a world title match against reigning champion Ju Wenjun of China.
