Balkan Climbing - the biggest climbing gym in the Balkans, was opened in Sofia on Wednesday with an official ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel.
Gabriel addressed the event participants saying that the climbing gym is another thing Bulgaria can be proud of. She said that with its more than 3,000 square meters of climbing area, the sports centre offers unique experience, being modern, innovative, a wonderful place for sport.
Ivaylo Radkov, national climbing coach, noted that the gym is a dream come true. He said that together with Georgi Penev they started training children and made them champions. The gym is suitable for both beginners and advanced climbers, Radkov added.
At the opening of the gym, a climbing demonstration was performed by a six-year-old child and an elderly man.
On February 29, the gym will have open access and everyone can try climbing. Austrian rock climber Jakob Schubert will be a special guest.
The opening ceremony of the sports facility was also attended by world climbing champion Aleksandra Totkova.
