Bulgarian ski orienteering athlete Stanimir Belomazhev claimed the silver medal in the sprint at the 2024 World Ski Orienteering Championships in Haanja, Estonia.
The two-time world champion was nine seconds away from the gold, finishing in 17:11 minutes, following winner Niklas Ekstrom (Finland). Aapo Viippola (Finland) ranked third, falling 17 seconds behind Ekstrom.
In the women's race, Olympic cross-country skier Antoniya Grigorova finished 25th. She was 3:28 minutes behind Judita Traubaite (Lithuania), who posted a time of 18:07 minutes, beating world champion Magdalena Olsson (Sweden) by five seconds.
Another Bulgarian athlete, Andreya Dyaksova, finished 11th with 2:07 minutes behind Traubaite.
The programme of the World Ski Orienteering Championships in Estonia will see 62 men and 44 women compete over the weekend.
