Bulgarian Youth and Sports Minister Dimitar Iliev and United World Wrestling (UWW) President Nenad Lalovic Wednesday discussed the development of wrestling and the organization of the 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade. The two met at the September 16-24 event.

Lalovic stressed that Bulgaria has long traditions in wrestling and has contributed to it at world level. He thanked Iliev for his Ministry's support for the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation.

The conversation focused on the challenges facing sport in recent years and UWW's efforts to have wrestling on the Olympic programme. Iliev said the stable financing of Bulgaria's traditional sports, including wrestling, is one of his Ministry's priorities.

Earlier in the day, Iliev met with the Bulgaria internationals before their bouts. "We are certain you will be successful! We wish you many victories, keep fighting with heart and soul," the Youth and Sports Minister said.

Bulgarian Wrestling Federation President Hristo Marinov briefed Iliev on the wrestlers' training and talked about the medals and Olympic berths they are expected to win.
