The 23rd edition of the Cor Caroli International Regatta started from Burgas harbour on Friday. There are a record number of 45 participating yachts that will attempt to cover the distance of 100 nautical miles to Varna.

The race is held in memory of Captain Georgi Georgiev - the first Bulgarian to circumnavigate the globe. The regatta is named after Georgiev’s yacht Cor Caroli.

The organizer of the event, Captain Toma Tomov, told bTV that this is the only sea regatta with a passage between Bulgaria's Southern and Northern Black Sea coasts. He added that the Cor Caroli regatta always brings together many participants.

Tomov explained that there will be three upwind and downwind races in Varna Bay and three coastal races, as well: Burgas - St. Ivan Island - St. Vlas (27.7 nautical miles), St. Vlas - Varna (36.2 nautical miles), and Varna - Aladzha Bank - Varna (18 nautical miles).

The regatta will be held in the ORC, IRC and Conrad 25P classes.

The awards ceremony and the closing of the regatta will take place on the Day of Varna, 15 August.
