site.btaAgriculture Minister Discusses Opportunities to Promote Bilateral Trade, Investment with Iraq's Ambassador to Bulgaria

Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Tahov and Iraq's Ambassador to Bulgaria Lina Omar discussed opportunities for promoting bilateral trade and investment with a focus on the exchange of agricultural and food products, his Ministry's press centre said here on Tuesday.

Tahov highlighted the good level of cooperation between the two countries, the successful completion of procedures for the export of Bulgarian agricultural products to Iraq and stressed that there is potential for developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of agricultural science and technology, irrigation and hydraulic reclamation.

Iraq's Ambassador said that Bulgaria is a welcome trade partner and noted the importance of importing Bulgarian agricultural products and foodstuffs for the Iraqi market. She pointed to the possibility of exchanging experience in the field of organic and sustainable agriculture, transfer of animal genetic material and trade in planting material for fruit species.

The Agriculture and Food Minister stressed the growing importance of the agricultural sector in the face of climate change and the need to ensure food security, stating readiness to support bilateral initiatives in agriculture.
