Bulgaria’s caretaker Education and Science Minister Galin Tsokov has conferred with the Executive Chair of the European Association for Autonomous Transport and Open Systems (ATOS), Radoslav Atanasov. The pair discussed opportunities to integrate drone pilot training into STEM education in schools, Tsokov’s Ministry said on its website.

The proposed training would combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills, enabling pupils to operate modern aviation technology. The idea is to provide pupils with a comprehensive understanding of drone systems, meteorology, navigation, and flight regulations.

Recent labour market data indicate a growing demand for drone pilots in high-growth sectors. These professionals are particularly sought after in industries such as utilities, oil and gas, healthcare, agriculture, law enforcement, firefighting, environmental surveying, mapping, construction, infrastructure, military, etc. Pay levels are relatively high, which further contributes to the appeal of the job.

During the meeting, Atanasov expressed ATOS's readiness to offer specialized training programmes aiming to position Bulgaria as a leader in training students for careers in this field.
