Economy Minister Petko Nikolov and Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria Dai Qingli agreed at a Monday meeting that there is a potential for boosting trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and China, the Ministry’s press service said.
Nikolov pointed out that in 2023 the trade in goods between the two countries reached nearly USD 4 billion, but there are still untapped opportunities for further expansion of Bulgarian exports to China.
The two sides discussed possibilities for holding a session of the Bulgarian-Chinese Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation in 2025. According to Nikolov, it is an important mechanism for the development of trade relations between the two countries.
The Minister proposed a bilateral business forum to be organized alongside the session, to provide a platform for companies from both countries for future successful cooperation.
Dai Qingli stressed the importance of deepening the economic relations between Bulgaria and China, especially against the background of this year’s 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
