The Council of Ministers announced Friday that the poverty line for 2025 will be BGN 638, a 21.3% increase of BGN 112 from 2024.

The new poverty line will positively impact vulnerable and low-income groups: social benefits and financial support linked to its value, provided under the Social Assistance Act, the People with Disabilities Act, and the Child Protection Act, will also rise.

Raising the poverty line will also improve social protection for vulnerable groups by providing State support to more individuals and families in need.

During a meeting of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation (NCTC) on September 16, business representatives supported the government's proposal to change the poverty line level, while trade unions called for a revision of the methodology used to determine its amount. Caretaker Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Ivanov said that the BGN 112 increase would expand coverage to more vulnerable individuals.
