Despite the rain and snow that fell in Montana in December 2024, the level of the Ogosta Reservoir remains low for the season, the Montana regional government said. Out of a capacity of 506,000 cu m, the reservoir currently holds 163,810 cu m of water.

Extensive areas of land are visible along the banks of the reservoir and islands have emerged from the water in many places.

Ogosta is the second largest artificial lake in Bulgaria (after the Iskar reservoir). Originally built to provide water for irrigation, now it is mainly used for production of electricity.
