site.btaFood Price Index Marks Slight Decrease in Third Week of July

A slight decrease in prices of some basic foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables on the stock exchanges in the country was registered in the third week of July, reported the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges.

The market price index decreased by 0.49% to 2,034 points during the week. Last week the it was at the level of 2,044 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

Imported cucumbers decreased in price by 8% to BGN 2.27 per kilogram, while greenhouse cucumbers went up by 2% to BGN 2.81 per kilogram. The price of greenhouse tomatoes increased by 1.9% to BGN 2.19 per kilogram, while the price of green peppers went down  falls 6.7% to BGN 2.50 per kilogram.

The price of potatoes became cheaper by 11.3% to BGN 1.02 per kilogram, while that of carrots went down by 3.5% to BGN 1.17 per kilogram. The price of ripe onions was also down by 2.8% to BGN 1.16 per kilogram, as well as that of cabbage - by 1% to BGN 0.83 per kilogram.

The price of lemons increased by 5.8% to BGN 2.97 per kilogram, and bananas decreased in price by 0.8$ to BGN 2.74 per kilogram. Peaches rose in price by 0.5% to BGN 2.45 per kilogram, and apricots went by 1.8% to BGN 2.78 per kilogram. The price of watermelons went dwon by 10.8% to BGN 0.78 per kilogram.

The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 0.4% to BGN 10.91/kg, while yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type kept its price and was traded at BGN 17.23 per kilogram.

The price of yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) increased by 2.2% to BGN 1.23 for a cup of 400 grammes. Fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) increased in price by 1.4% to BGN 2.24 per litre.

Chicken decreased in price by 4.2% to BGN 6.52/kg, while the average wholesale price of eggs (size M) decreased by 2.9% to BGN 0.27 per piece wholesale.
The price of rice increased by 3.2% to BGN 3.32/kg, while that of lentils went down by 0.5% to BGN 4.30/kg. The price of dry common beans decreased by 2.3% to BGN 4,23/kg.

Sugar increased in price by 0.4% to BGN 2.02/kg. Sunflower oil was selling at BGN 2.77 per litre, down by 2.8% from the previous week. The price of flour (type 500) increased by 7.1% to BGN 1.33/kg, while butter from cow’s milk went up by 0.2% to BGN 2.64 for a pack of 125 grammes.
