The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) published a report on its website on Thursday, indicating Bulgaria has shown notable progress in international rankings for energy transition and prosperity.

The report, drafted by the Economic Analysis and Policy Department, shows that the 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Energy Transition Index (ETI) ranks Bulgaria as 36th, a notable increase from 48th in 2023. This improvement highlights Bulgaria's dedication to energy sustainability and its efforts to adopt new technologies aimed at lowering carbon emissions.

The WEF’s Fostering Effective Energy Transition 2024 report reveals that growing uncertainties are impeding energy transition momentum despite record ETI scores. ETI, assessing 120 countries on their energy system performance and readiness for the transition, highlights improvements in energy efficiency and a rise in clean energy adoption. However, recent energy price spikes have impeded investment in energy capital, and ongoing geopolitical risks continue to challenge energy security.

Bulgaria has risen to 53rd position in the latest Freedom and Prosperity Index by the Atlantic Council, marking a notable advancement from 75th in 2023. This progress reflects improvements in income levels, health services, and overall population happiness. The Atlantic Council's analysis reveals a strong correlation between freedom and prosperity.

The Prosperity Index highlights that the pandemic has significantly impacted health, income, and education, halting the robust progress observed in previous decades. BCCI reports that global prosperity levels remain below those recorded before 2019.
