Speaking to journalists here on Thursday, Association of Incoming Agencies (AIA) Chair Ivan Groshev commented that Bulgaria is no yet known so well as a tourist destination on the German market; it is sold primarily through travel agencies' recommendation. Groshev took part in a Elbere Bulgarien conference, organized in Nessebar by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD and the association managed by it.

"The messages that our country has traditionally been sending and that we need to reinforce are that we have good value for money. We also have something that is very much appreciated: short flight times from Germany, which is very good for families with children. We also have a wonderful climate, food and in general many things that we can present, but we seem to keep them secret," Groshev said.

He added that our competitors in tourism are Turkiye and Tunisia, which specialise in family and all-inclusive tourism. "Very often we mention Greece and Spain, but it should be noted that these countries specialize in the higher class," Groshev noted.

According to him, Bulgaria needs an even better thought-out, strategic communication policy regarding tourism. This is the main reason for the lack of awareness of Bulgaria, it transpires from his words.

Groshev expressed the opinion that the flights from Germany are not enough either in Burgas or in Varna (on the Black Sea). This is caused by the insufficient aircraft capacity, which was reduced during the pandemic. Bulgaria is suffering from this, through no fault of its own, he said.
