Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev met with Prof. Bettany Hughes, historian and author of documentary series, whose programme "Treasures of the World" is broadcast in 120 countries around the world, the press centre of the ministry said on Friday. Hughes is the co-founder of SandStone Global, a television, film and audio production company, and the company's films air in prime time on BBC, National Geographic, Viasat History, Discovery, Amazon, and Netflix.

"You are one of Bulgaria's most valuable ambassadors to the world. Our country is great, we have an incredibly rich cultural heritage, wonderful nature, and amazing people. I am glad that you are promoting our country," Miloshev said.

In the summer of 2023, the first episode of "The Treasures of Bulgaria" was filmed, presenting the Kazanlak Tomb, Buzludzha, the Basilica in Plovdiv, Heraclea Sintica, the Rila Monastery, the Rila Lakes, the Archaeological Museum - Varna, where the oldest worked gold in the world is exhibited, Varna Lake, the Nestinar rituals in the village of Kosti and rituals of the inhabitants of the village of Ribnovo. The Treasures of Bulgaria episode was first shown in Bulgaria on Viasat History on 24 May 2024 and in the UK the episode was the most watched programme in the country on Channel 4 on the day it aired.

"I first came to Bulgaria 15 years ago and fell in love with your culture, history and nature. Even then I knew that one day we should do a special series about the treasures of your country. Bulgaria is very beautiful in the spring and our next project, which will be dedicated to the Thracian civilization, will be filmed at this time of the year," Hughes said.

In April 2024, the second episode of "The Treasures of Bulgaria" was filmed in Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Belogradchik, Sozopol, Magura Cave.
