The opportunities for increasing Bulgarian exports to Israel were discussed during a meeting between caretaker Minister of Economy and Industry Petko Nikolov and Israel's Ambassador to Bulgaria Yosef Levi Sfari, the Economy Ministry reported here on Tuesday.
The two highlighted the excellent relations between the countries and discussed the opportunities for intensifying economic cooperation, stressing that there is a great untapped potential for expanding trade.
Minister Nikolov pointed out that Israel is a traditional economic partner of Bulgaria, but there is still room for improvement in bilateral relations.
In his words, an important step to boost economic ties in various sectors would be the holding of the first session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation. "This would constitute a good basis for discussing concrete steps and prospects for future bilateral trade relations," Nikolov said.
The two also talked about promoting Israeli investment in innovation and high technology in Bulgaria.
Israeli investors and companies operating in Bulgaria, especially in the high-tech sector, find in Bulgaria engineers and experts of a very high level, Ambassador Yosef Levi Sfari said.
The Minister of Economy and the Israeli Ambassador discussed the possibilities to work on strengthening the bilateral trade, especially for the export of goods from Bulgaria, as a priority.
