At the end of April, the bank deposits and loans of households increased by 11.1% and 18.6%, respectively, compared to the like period of 2024, show data published by the Bulgarian National Bank on Monday.

According to the data, the deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) were BGN 82.392 billion (41.6% of GDP) at end-April, an increase by 11.1% compared to the same month of 2023. The deposits of non-financial corporations grew by 7.4% annually to BGN 43.693 billion (22.1% of GDP) at end-April 2024. The deposits of financial corporations dropped by 18.6% from end-April 2023 to BGN 3.179 billion (1.6% of GDP). 

At the end of April 2024, deposits of the non-government sector were BGN 129.173 billion (65.2% of GDP), increasing annually by 8.9%.

Loans to households and NPISHs were BGN 40.850 billion (20.6% of GDP) at the end of April, up by 18.6% from the like period of 2023. Loans for house purchases amounted to BGN 21.395 billion and increased by 23.9% annually. Consumer loans amounted to BGN 17.740 billion, up by 14% from end-April 2023. 

Loans to non-financial corporations increased by 8.6% annually to BGN 45.503 billion at the end of April (23% of GDP).

Loans granted to financial corporations amounted to BGN 7.898 billion (4% of GDP). Compared to April 2023, they grew by 20.9%.
