Meeting with representatives of 15 leading US companies here on Thursday, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said that Bulgaria is a gateway to Europe thanks to its geographical location and its border with Turkiye. Together with its good education that prepares talents and experts, Bulgaria offers many investment opportunities, he said, as quoted by the Government Information Service.
Participating in the meeting were US Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten and Eric Stewart, CEO of the American-Central European Business Association.
Denkov also said that the region is developing, and his government wishes that Bulgaria be a central part of that process. He expressed certainty that Bulgarian can be turned into the region's brand. "Our country is strong in many spheres, such as electronics, IT, robotics, medicine, automotive industry, defence industry. We want to develop a modern European high-tech industry. We have all the conditions necessary to make something bigger. That is why we are seeking bigger investors, like you," he told the US business representatives.
The Prime Minister noted Bulgaria's economic growth despite the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, with a GDP growth of 3.9% in 2022. Achieving part of the Cabinet's priorities - entry in the Schengen area, the eurozone, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Develop - will be the base on which Bulgaria will develop its capabilities, Denkov said.
The business representatives talked about their companies' activity and market role in the fields of defence, healthcare, ICT, renewable energy, and banking.
"An impressive range of companies. For some of them there already are ideas for future partnership," Denkov commented.
