Culture Minister Marian Bachev opened Bulgaria’s stand at the 19th International Podgorica Book and Education Fair on Wednesday, joined by Vice President Iliana Iotova.

“Bulgaria is the guest of honour, so the coming days will showcase Bulgarian culture,” Culture Minister Marian Bachev said as he opened the country’s stand at the 19th International Book and Education Fair in Podgorica. He announced a concert by the Pleven Philharmonic and a performance by the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, both funded by the Culture Ministry.

Bachev thanked Bulgaria's Ambassador in Podgorica Stefan Dimitrov and the Bulgarian Book Association for organising the stand, and voiced hope that Montenegro would soon join the EU, saying Sofia is one of its strongest supporters. Culture and education underpin dialogue, he said.

Vice-President Iliana Iotova told visitors the stand offers numerous Bulgarian publishers and quality editions in several languages and invited them to an exhibition marking 1,170 years since the Glagolitic alphabet and 1,160 years since Bulgaria adopted Orthodox Christianity.

Authors Zdravka Evtimova and Georgi Bardarov are scheduled to appear on May 8-9, and the National Theatre will stage Elementary Particles. Earlier, Bachev and Iotova unveiled Ivan Vazov Street in Cetinje before attending the fair’s opening in Podgorica.
