The Bulgarian-American Cultural and Educational Society in California (BACES) hosted its annual spring celebration in Los Angeles, USA, on Sunday, May 4, 2024, which coincided with St George’s Day, BACES said on Wednesday.
The celebration brought together the Bulgarian Society for Education and Culture Bee, the Bulgarian School St. Cyril and St. Methodius, the Horotropci folk ensemble and other musicians. The programme opened with the national anthem sung by opera singer Mariana Popzlateva, followed by folk songs from Olga Karagyozova that sparked a spontaneous horo dance. Horotropci performed several dances and magician Ekaterina Markova staged a show for children. “The children from the Bulgarian school impressed everyone with their songs, dances and poems about spring and Bulgaria,” the school said.
Consul General Boyko Hristov attended with members of the Los Angeles mission and presented BACES with a certificate recognising its cultural work. The diplomatic mission called the gathering “a joyful and vibrant celebration … that for the third year in a row has united the Bulgarian community in a spirit of togetherness and national pride,” it added.
