site.btaBulgaria Records EU's Fourth-highest Rate of Working People at Risk of Poverty in 2024
Bulgaria had the fourth-highest highest rate of people who were in-work and at risk of poverty in the European Union in 2024, show Eurostat data published here on Monday. With 11.8% it trailed behind only Luxembourg (13.4%), Spain (11.2%) and Greece (10.7%).
Risk of poverty does not only affect people living in households with low work intensity or people without employment.
The data show that the in-work at-risk-of-poverty rate was higher for men (13%) than for women (10.4%). Bulgaria's gender difference of 2.6 percentage points is close to the EU average - 9% for men and 7.3% for women.
The lowest rate of people who were in-work and at risk of poverty was recorded in Finland (2.8%), followed by Czechia (3.6%) and Belgium (4.3%). The EU average was 8.2%.
