Bulgaria's General Labour Inspectorate has carried out 41,895 inspections since the start of the year, the executive agency said on Wednesday. The inspectors established 161,861 violations of labour legislation, of which 87,242 concerned health and safety at work, while 73,572 concerned labour relations.
A total of 3,119 cases of work without an employment contract were detected, compared to 2,919 during the same period last year.
As a result of the inspections, 887 sites, facilities, machines, and installations were shut down, compared to 601 in the same period of 2024. Eighty-five workers were suspended from work due to lack of qualifications or failure to comply with safety regulations.
Following the intervention of labour inspectors, over BGN 3.9 million in delayed wages have been paid to employees. The total amount of enforced penalty decrees and approved settlements exceeds BGN 12.3 million.
On this day in 1907, the predecessor of the Executive Agency General Labour Inspectorate was established. Over the years, it has undergone numerous changes and expanded its powers, but its core mission to serve as a guarantor of compliance with labour legislation remains unchanged, the Agency noted.
