Bulgaria's highest ranked tennis player Grigor Dimitrov withdrew from the Rolex Paris Masters ATP 1000 event in the French capital on Wednesday. He returned to the Tour for the first time since he injured a pectoral muscle during Wimbledon and managed to win his opening round tie against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Monday before losing in doubles on Tuesday.
On Instagram, Dimitrov hailed the week as successful but explained the reason behind his decision to retire from the tournament: "After performing competitively for some days, I felt confident it was the right time to stop. Excited for the challenges and opportunities 2026 will bring!"
The Bulgarian suffered a heartbreaking injury in Wimbledon's round of 16 where he was leading then-number-one player in the world Jannick Sinner with 2 sets to love. He was forced to retire in the third set and could not compete until the Paris Masters.
This week, he secured a 7-6(5) 6-1 win over Mpetshi Perricard and took part in Frenchman Nicolas Mahut's final professional game. The two paired for a 4-6 7-5 4-10 defeat against Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin on Tuesday.
Mahut is a former world No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, has five doubles Grand Slam trophies and helped his country win the Davis Cup in 2017.
