site.btaFolk Song Festival to Bring Together Ensembles from Three Continents in Bulgarian Town of Nedelino

The National Folklore Festival of Two-Part Singing and Folk Songs with International Participants will bring together performers from across Bulgaria and visiting ensembles from Mexico, India, Poland, Romania, Turkiye, and North Macedonia in the southern town of Nedelino. The 23rd edition of the traditional festival will be held from September 6 to 8, Iliana Duganova of the Nedelino Municipality told BTA.

The event, organized by the Nedelino Municipality and the Culture Ministry, will coincide with the marking of Nedelino's 50th anniversary.

Ensembles from some 40 community centres across Bulgaria have confirmed their participation in the festival so far. The call for performers will be open until July 26. The entrants will be divided into five age groups. Visiting participants will be featured in the non-competitive section of the festival.

The festival is dedicated to the Nedelino two-part singing, which is regarded as a unique expression of the song tradition in the Rhodope Mountains. Since 2017, the Nedelino two-part singing has been taught as a subject at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, the Nedelino Municipality said.
