Jessica Lange, winner of two Oscar awards, is coming to Sofia to present her photographs at the Palace on Prince Alexander the First Square, the organizers announced Friday. The opening of the exhibition is on July 4. The event is part of the Masters of Photography project.
The film and theatre actress has been building a career as an art photographer for almost two decades. Her first-ever retrospective in Bulgaria includes nearly 120 black-and-white photographs revealing Jessica Lange's interests, captured by the lens of the camera. These are very personal, almost intimate works created during her travels around the world, the organizers said.
In 1967 Lange won a scholarship to study photography at the University of Minnesota, which she gave up to pursue acting. During her time in Paris in the 1970s, she befriended noted photographers Robert Frank and Danny Lyon, who helped her develop, refine, and focus her gaze. She only rediscovered this passion in the early 1990s when she received a Leica camera as a gift. She hasn't stopped photographing since.
The photographs will be presented by Howard Greenberg, one of the world's leading photogallerists, a curator and an established art dealer.
