The government gave the green light to an additional transfer of BGN 2 million to the budget of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), as prescribed by the National Assembly in the 2024 State Budget Act. The money will be used to boost the capacity and the activities of BTA and its correspondents' bureaus, the Government Information Service reported on Wednesday.

Under amendments to the BTA Act passed in March 2021, the national news agency provides universal free access to its news products and offers free distribution of official announcements by a wider range of sources than before. BTA's development programme for the period 2021-2025, called "BTA's Future", stipulates territorial development of the agency's news services.

This can only be achieved by strengthening and expanding BTA's activities and its network of correspondents, including by appointing a second correspondent at every correspondent's bureau in the regional capitals and stationing correspondents in larger towns other than the regional capitals, and developing a meaningful and uninterrupted working process at BTA.
