After visiting the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2024 on Thursday, Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov told BTA he liked it a lot. Gospodinov's novel Time Shelter inspired the German curator Cagla Ilk, who then called Gospodinov to ask for advice on her project – an installation titled Thresholds and represents a clinic of the past.
The writer shared with BTA: "This is a particular choreography of the past and the future. And it is this everyday life inside, these rooms of the past, that make a kind of time machine. And in this way, one enters into the everyday experience of the past. Because the past is a very personal thing. That's what I liked here, in this pavilion." Gospodinov knew what the installation would look like in advance, as Ilk had shared images with him, however, he added that experiencing the pavilion in person was a lot more impactful.
