Spanish Ambassador to Bulgaria Alejandro Polanco will open a photographic exhibition "Spain and Bulgaria. Together in the European Union", the Plovdiv Municipality said on Thursday.

The event is at 11:00 in the Boris Hristov House of Culture and admission is free.

The exhibition presents moments from the common path walked by the two countries within the European Union and includes over 60 photos capturing events from bilateral relations and cultural exchanges from 1989 to 2023.

Among the photographs one can see archival footage of summits, official visits, important moments from Bulgaria's pre-accession process to the European Union, moments of sorrow and joy for both countries, sporting successes and cultural accolades, curious moments from the lives of Bulgarian and Spanish scientists, Antarctic neighbours. The exhibition quotes in ten panels the thoughts of 32 representatives of cultural, scientific, social and political life in Bulgaria, professionally and emotionally connected with Spain.  

The event is organized by the Embassy of Spain in Bulgaria.  It is hosted and co-organized by the Department of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Plovdiv, Boris Hristov House of Culture.

The exhibition was prepared in the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which was between July and December 2023. It was carried out in collaboration with the State Archives Agency and BTA, which provided most of the archive footage. Photographs were also provided by the National Assembly, the Presidency, the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Defence of Bulgaria.
