The great Bulgarian actor Ivan Ivanov has passed away, the Union of Bulgarian Artists said on its Facebook page on Wednesday. No other actor in Bulgarian cinema has ever gained so much fame, admiration or love after his first starring role in a film, the Union said.

Ivanov was born in Asenovgrad, South Central Bulgaria, on December 16, 1951. He graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia in 1979. He acted in numerous plays staged by Mladezhki Theatre between 1979 and 1981 and by the Bulgarian Army Theatre between 1981 and 1093.

Everything's Love from 1979 was the film that turned Ivanov into a legend of Bulgarian cinema. He proceeded to have memorable starring roles in The Racket (1982), Avalanche (1982), Preventive Detention (1983) and Nights with the White Horses (1985) among others. TV audiences know him from the TV series Burn, Little Flame, Burn (1994).
