Citizens and Belgrade City Hall security guards clashed during a protest in which the building's facade was daubed with red paint.

The action began in the morning after a group of citizens held up placards reading "Your hands are bloody" and "Corruption kills" in line with the anti-government protests over the past four months that have gripped Serbia over the Novi Sad tragedy.

On November 1, the concrete canopy of the railway station collapsed in the northern Serbian city, killing 15 people and leaving two seriously injured who are still receiving treatment in hospital.

At the start of the session of the municipal council, the opposition representatives remained standing in the hall and started singing the Serbian national anthem without interruption in an attempt to prevent the voting on the agenda.

The majority approved the 40 items for consideration and proceeded to vote on them without debate, but the session of the council ended quickly.

Meanwhile, protesting citizens outside the building got into an altercation with the security guards and the two sides clashed.

Police intervened, and three people were arrested.
