The New Year's Gala of Ballet Arabesque is taking place on Friday evening at Sofia’s Musical Theatre, the company said.
The ballet will present two of its most successful performances: Carmina Burana and Bolero. The choice is not accidental - these titles are not only the favourites of the Bulgarian audience, but explode with applause on numerous world stages, according to the organisers.
Carmina Burana is set to music by Carl Orff, choreography by Boryana Sechanova and costume design by Tsvetanka Petkova-Stoynova. In the repertoire of Arabesque there are two stage versions of the oratorio - from 1972 by the Italian choreographer Juan Corelli, and from 1988 - by the great Bulgarian choreographer and long-time director of Arabesque - Margarita Arnaudova, together with the Plovdiv Opera. Sechanova's choreography was developed especially for Arabesque's tour of the United States, where it brought four thousand people to their feet.
"Bolero, set to music by Maurice Ravel, is choreographed by Margarita Arnaudova. The costume designer is Maria Trendafilova. The show was first staged in 1987.
