Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel and Culture Minister Krastyu Krastev signed a strategic agreement to improve the activities of Bulgarian cultural institutes abroad, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday. The goal is better coordination with the priorities of Bulgarian foreign policy.
"With the agreement, we confirm the role of Bulgarian cultural institutes abroad as an integral part of the institutions through which Bulgarian foreign policy is implemented. This is an important message about the key role of cultural diplomacy in foreign policy," said Gabriel.
The agreement concluded between the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Culture provides for the preparation and reporting of programmes on an annual basis for the activities of Bulgarian cultural institutes abroad. These activities will be in line with the priorities of the Bulgarian foreign policy.
Bilateral international agreements based on which the Bulgarian cultural institutes were established will also be updated. An independent part in the cultural calendar with national events and celebrations of events related to foreign policy priorities in the field of culture will also be outlined.
