Sofia Opera and Ballet's gala tour began in Turkiye on Wednesday night with a performance of the opera "Tosca" at the State Opera and Ballet, Ankara.
Opera lovers in the Turkish capital, including many expatriates from Bulgaria as well as Bulgarian guests, enjoyed the show in the centre of Ankara. The entire hall rose to its feet at the end of the performance, as director Plamen Kartalov, conductor Sunay Muratov and the musicians were sent off with several minutes of applause.
On November 11, the opera will also be shown at the Ataturk Cultural Centre in Istanbul.
The gala tour of Sofia Opera and Ballet under the title "Bulgaria congratulates Turkiye: Happy Centenary of the Republic!" is under the patronage of Mrs. Desislava Radeva, wife of the Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, and Mrs. Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish President Recep Erdogan.
The tour is taking place on the initiative of the Bulgarian Embassy in Ankara and personally of Ambassador Angel Cholakov with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture.
The event is entirely charitable, and the financial proceeds will be donated to help the areas in southeast Turkiye affected by the devastating earthquakes in February.
