site.btaShort List Announced for 2023 Krastan Dyankov Translation Award

The Elizabeth Kostova Foundation has announced the short list for this year's Krastan Dyankov translation award. The award recognizes outstanding translations of contemporary English-language novels.

Thirteen translations were submitted for consideration, the Foundation said Wednesday. They were reviewed by a jury consisting of Alexandra Glavanakova, a professor of American Literature and Culture at Sofia University; Vladimir Poleganov, a writer, and translator who received the 2022 Krastan Dyankov Award; and Dr. Olga Nikolova, an author, editor, translator, and Professor of Writing and Literature at the American University in Bulgaria.

The short list: 

The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen, translated by Mayre Buyuklieva, edited by Antonia Apostolova (published by Krug);

A Ladder To The Sky by John Boyne, translated by Petya Petkova, edited by Emilia L. Maslarova (published by Labirint);

The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka, translated by Petya Petkova, edited by Emilia L. Maslarova (published by “Labirint”);

Babel. An Arcane History by F. K. Kuang, translated by Bogdan Rusev, edited by Nina Mateeva (published by “Orange Books”);

The winner will be revealed on November 17.
