A photo exhibition, entitled Jewish Bulgaria, will open at the Bulgarian Cultural Insitute in Budapest on November 7.

The exhibition, which has already been displayed in Sofia, London, Prague and Szeged, comprises 60 large photographs taken over a period of ten years and reflects 20 centuries of Jewish heritage in Bulgaria.

Author Anthony Georgieff says that the earliest Jewish artefacts in Bulgarian lands date from 1st century AD, and is menorah carved in a marble block in the old Roman garrison Ulpia Oescus near Gigen. During those 20 centuries Jews left rich architectural, literary and musical heritage but a large part of it currently is in a very bad state.

The exhibition will be presented by Hungarian writer of Jewish origin Gabor Schein and will be on until December 4.
