site.btaBTA Initiates Meeting between Directors of Bulgaria's National Library and Odesa National Scientific Library

A meeting was held here on Saturday, with BTA's assistance, between the directors of the Odesa National Scientific Library and the Bulgarian SS Cyril and Methodius National Library, Irina Biryukova and Krassimira Alexandrova, respectively. The meeting was also attended by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Bulgarian writer Yordan Evtimov. 

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support you have given us with your visit to Odesa and to our library.  It is a courage during the war to arrive on a friendly visit. This gives us courage", Biryukova welcomed the delegation from Bulgaria.

The guests got acquainted with the main areas of the library's work under martial law. Possible future cooperation projects were also discussed. 

Associate Professor Alexandrova invited her Ukrainian colleague to the celebrations dedicated to the 145th anniversary of National Library in Sofia. Alexandrova noted that she would be very happy to deepen the ties of the two libraries and also to sign a memorandum of cooperation.

The event took place in the framework of the upcoming events dedicated to the Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians at BTA's  National Press Club in Odesa. 

Yordan Eftimov's book of poetry, dedicated to the war in Ukraine, is scheduled to be presented at the BTA National Pressclub on Sunday. 

An exhibition from the Bulgarian National Library's documentary collections about the Jews in Bulgarian lands will also be presented by Krassimira Alexandrova at the UNION International Cultural Centre in Odesa. The event will take place at the UNION Cultural Centre in Odesa, which was built by the Jewish community in the city.

After these events, the Consul General of Bulgaria in the city, Svetoslav Ivanov, will organize a meeting of the Bessarabian Bulgarians in Ukraine at the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Odesa.
