An upcoming exhibition presents the development of Bulgaria's Mountain Rescue Service from its establishment to present day. 90 Years of Mountain Rescue will be unveiled at the Triangular Tower of Serdica exhibition space on November 2, the Sofia Regional History Museum said Friday.

The exhibition is organized by the Sofia Regional History Museum and the Mountain Rescue Service, Directorate of the Bulgarian Red Cross.

A short historical narrative will trace the development of the Mountain Rescue Service since its establishment. Samples of mountain rescue equipment, clothing of mountain rescuers, personal protective equipment, interesting archival documents and photographs will be shown, the organizers say.

The visitors will be able to see a rare collection of badges of honour for distinguishing mountain rescuers of special merit, owned by Georgi Stamov, a full-time mountain rescuer and head of the Mountain Rescue Service in Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria). Also to be exhibited is the original of the Toboggan stretcher, constructed in 1943 by the famous Bulgarian mountaineer Konstantin Savadzhiev, as well as his Mountain Rescue Service membership card.
