A performance by the trio of Bulgarian pianist Alexandra Ivanova - Alexandra Ivanova Trio, opened the fifteenth edition of the Cairo Jazz Festival. This year's iconic music forum, which runs until November 3, features the works of performers from fifteen countries. The programme includes concerts, workshops, children's programmes, documentary screenings and jam sessions.

"I'm very happy to perform with my trio at a festival of such scale in the Arab world," Alexandra Ivanova, who has already given numerous concerts in European countries, told BTA.

Ivanova was born and grew up in Austria, studied in France, lived in Lebanon, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and currently lives in Berlin. She speaks six languages but defines herself as a Bulgarian, and that is how she presents herself on stage. Her parents are from Varna and her grandparents are from the village of Brestovets in the Pleven Region.

Alexandra Ivanova Trio's debut album, Beauty in Chaos, was released a month ago. Her compositions interweave jazz, traditional oriental and Afro-Cuban music.
