The second edition of the Varna Science Festival began on Thursday and will last until October 29. In the four coming days, the Varna Festival and Congress Centre will be a place of science and technology, where nearly 100 events will take place, said Ivaylo Slavov, head Beautiful Science Foundation, which organizes the forum, at the opening.

Varna Deputy Mayor Ralitsa Gerasimova recalled that the Science Festival initiative dates back 13 years, managing to bring science out of its natural environment and present it to people. She was confident that in the next years the festival will bring thousands of guests to Varna, she said.

The event is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science and was opened by Deputy Minister Prof. Genka Petrova.

The event hosted representatives of the Varna higher education institutions and scientific units, including the Technical, Economic and Medical Universities, the Institute of Oceanology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, the University Botanical Garden, the National Astronomical Observatory in Varna and guests from Sofia University, pointed out Ivaylo Slavov. Some of the events are in partnership with the British Council, the embassies of Austria, the USA, Ukraine, the Czech and Polish Centres, the Camoes Institute, the French Centre and National Geographic.

For the first time in Varna, within the framework of the Science Festival, the Engineers in Action Regional Technological Forum will be held, the organizer of the initiative, Yavor Kiryakov from the University for Kids, told BTA. Students of all ages and university students will be able to compete, by proposing their robot designs created with different platforms, 3D models and smart systems. Interesting prizes are planned for the winners, including a 3d printer for the winner of the 3D modeling competition, Kiryakov added.
