A documentary exhibition on the occasion of Nicolaus Copernicus' 550th birth anniversary will be opened at the Polish Institute in Sofia. The exhibition can be seen from October 24 to November 10, the organizers from the Polish Institute in Sofia and the Polish Cultural and Educational Society "Vladislav Varnenchik" [King Wladislaw III of Varna] in Bulgaria said.

The 24 panels trace the story of the great Polish astronomer's life and stellar research, as well as curious facts from his life. The exhibition presents Copernicus not only as an astronomer, but also as an administrator, lawyer and clergyman, said the organizers.

This year marks the 550th anniversary of Copernicus' birth, the 480th anniversary of his death and the publication of his work De revolutionibus orbium coelestium, and the 510th anniversary of the birth of the heliocentric theory, the team recalled. During the event, visitors will also have the opportunity to see a reconstruction of the astronomer's face, based on the skull discovered in 2005, the organizers explained.
