A photo exhibition dedicated to Vitosha mountain opened on Monday near the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. Organizers are the European Capital of Sport Sofia, Vitosha Nature Park and Sofia Municipality.

The exhibition, entitled "Vitosha - the mountain that gives life", presents 28 photographs by prominent photographers Alexander Valchev, Ivaylo Donchev and Ivan Zarkov. The display highlights the beauty and opportunities for sport, recreation and tourism in the mountain near the capital.

The third edition of the exhibition under this name also marks the emblematic events and activities that take place on the initiative and with the support of the European Capital of Sport Sofia, the programme which annually includes more than 20 festivals and races in and around the mountain: the Vitosha 100 - the Tour of the Mountain, the Summer and Winter Fest, the Shared Games, the Vitosha Run - a speed climb from the National Palace of Culture to Cherni vrah peak and others.

At the opening of the event the authors of the photographs talked about their motivation and love for the mountain that "never stops giving life". However, no photo or text can compare to feeling the smell of the forest, the crystal clear air, the calmness of the mountain streams or the challenges of the cliffs, they said. The message of the exhibition is "to spend more time in the mountains, to love and protect them, leaving only what we want the next generations to enjoy".

The photographs will be on display until October 24 in the Open Air Gallery of the National Palace of Culture.
