A new programme for renovation, reconstruction and furnishing of student dormitories amounting BGN 100 million was adopted this year thanks to the parliamentary Education and Science Committee and its chairman Krasimir Valchev, said Education Minister Galin Tzokov on Monday at the opening of a completely renovated dormitory building of University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Sofia.

"I hope that within its framework between 10 and 20 dormitories will get a new look and will be able to become a modern environment for self-education of students in different universities," he added. The programme will be implemented in the period 2024-2026.

Contemporary higher education and quality higher education have different dimensions - from digitalization, through the connection of education with research and achievements, through the creation of a suitable environment for rest, self-training and creativity of students, Tzokov pointed out. “After today, our higher education will be one small step closer to the global trends, and UNWE will get one more opportunity to match the best universities in Europe because it will expand this new, renewed and modern space for students where they can share, rest, prepare for exams and write their first publications,” he stated.

A total of 22 dormitory buildings will receive funding totaling nearly BGN 100 million, Tzokov noted.
