site.btaLiterary Encounters Celebrate 100 Years Since Birth of Writer Italo Calvino

The third event of the annual programme of Literary Encounters will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Italian writer Italo Calvino. It will take place on October 15 at Casa Libri, say the organizers from the Reading Sofia Foundation.

The event will start with a performance "Mr. Palomar", directed by Valeria Valcheva. It will feature actor Alexander Tonev and pianist Ines Simeonova.

Lecturer Sava Slavchev will moderate a discussion on Calvino's play with genres and style, which will take place after the performance. It will also include the literary theorist Ani Burova, writer, translator and doctor of philosophy Valentin Kalinov, and writer, bookseller, film and literary critic Martin Kasabov.

The October 15 event will conclude with a reading of texts inspired by "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler". Their authors are Yana Bukova, Valentin Kalinov, Polly Mukanova, Martin Kasabov, Ekaterina Grigorova and Todor Todorov.

The autumn edition of Literary Encounters is realized in partnership with CineLibri and with the assistance of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia, Casa Libri and Colibri publishing house. Literary Encounters 2023 is implemented with the financial support of the National Culture Fund, the Programme for the Restoration and Development of Private Cultural Organisations, Sofia Municipality and the Ministry of Culture.
