An exhibition titled Encounters of the Tenth Kind opened in Sofia July 11 to mark the beginning of observances of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. The exhibition is on at the Akademika Gallery and is a result of the cooperation between the Culture and Information Centre (CIC) of the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, said CIC.
The participating artists are Gordana Vrenzoska, Dejan Ivanov - Margush, Jana Maneva-Chuposka, Bedi Ibrahim, Mariana Ivanova, Peritsa "Pepsi" Georgiev, Pavel Celkoski, Marijan Dzingarov, Ivo Pecov, Nenad Micic, Zoran Mishe, Momchil Mirchev, Svilen Stefanov, Rosen Toshev, Ricardo Kvarezma Vieira, Walter Pratas and Zoltan Ferenc.
On display are over 50 of their works including drawings, graphic art, painting, sculpture, photography, digital and video art.
The exhibition will be on until 30 July 2023.
It is part of the Connecting project of CIC, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The project started in 2012 and, skipping only 2013, has has produced art exhibitions until this day, with the list of artists getting longer and more diverse over time. The core of the project are artists from North Macedonia who live and work in Bulgaria. They were gradually joined by Macedonian artists who have an active artistic activity in North Macedonia, as well as prominent Bulgarian artists. This year the exhibition also includes works by Romanian and Portuguese artists.
According to curator Ivo Petsov, the choice of the artists reflects their connections and their desire for this type of communication. "The artists themselves see in their contacts with each other an opportunity to growth and enrichment by looking at each other's art and perceiving a 'different' kind of beautiful. They all have an established creative path and a strong connection to the people around them," he says.
