"Shakespeare Like a Street Dog" Dominates Sveti Vlas Film Fest

Shakespeare Like a Street Dog, written and directed by Valeri Yordanov, dominated the Sveti Vlas Film Fest. It won on Saturday the awards for best film, best director, best director of photography, best actor and best supporting actor.

National Film Centre Executive Director Petar Todorov said the Best Film Award went to Shakespeare Like a Street Dog for the talented interpretation of contemporary social issues, narrated with honesty and visual power. Vladislav Stoimenov and Vasil Iliev received the Best Actor Award. Valeri Yordanov took the Best Director Award. The Best Director of Photography Award went to Boris Slavkov. The Best Supporting Actor Award went to Zachary Baharov.

Alexandra Kostova took the Best Actress Award for Petya of My Petya.

Alexandra Sarchadzhieva won the Best Supporting Actress Award for The Art of Falling.

Three of the films selected for the festival were made with financial and logistical support from Burgas Municipality.

Diana Savateva, the deputy mayor responsible for culture, said the municipality had made it a tradition to support the making of Bulgarian films in Burgas, and urged other municipalities to follow suit.

The guests at the ceremony included Don't Move producers Zainab Azizi and Sarah Sarandos, actors Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock and Tsvetan Atanasov from Nu Boyana Film Studios. The horror thriller is being shot in Bulgaria.

The festival's second edition was devoted to Bulgarian films. Director Alexander Kossev's Petya of My Petya opened the festival on July 6. Other films in the competition programme included Anna, Speculators, Dante's Heaven, Out of Season, Escape and Yellow Oleander.

After the awards ceremony, The Naked Truth About the Zhiguli Band was screened. Director Victor Bojinov thanked Burgas Municipality for its strong involvement in the making of the film.

The Sveti Vlas Film Fest is organized by Dinevi Group with support from Sveti Vlas Town Hall and Nu Boyana Film Studios. BTA is a media partner of the event.
