Police in Sofia have dismantled an illegal drug trafficking network, Ilcho Blagoev from the Sofia's Interior Ministry Regional Directorate said here Wednesday.

An operation was carried out on Tuesday night following a tip-off about the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids and erectile dysfunction pills. Several individuals were apprehended while delivering packages to end customers, and more than 13,000 boxes of various substances were seized, Blagoev said. He warned that these products can be dangerous when used without a doctor’s prescription or in incorrect dosages.

Two men, aged 32 and 31, were detained, with the younger having a prior conviction. Charges include tax evasion and distributing dangerous substances. The confiscated medications are valued at over BGN 500,000, and the illegal sales allegedly generated between BGN 120,000 and BGN 150,000 each month. Shell companies were used to hide tax liabilities, Blagoev added.

Investigators are determining whether this is part of a larger network. Blagoev said the packages were sent exclusively via courier services, and an athlete-focused website was also used to maintain secrecy.
