Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh met with Vidin Regional Governor Ani Harutyunyan to discuss the strategic opportunities for the development of tourism in the region, and the necessary steps to be taken to transform it into a preferred destination for domestic and international tourism, the Tourism Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

During the meeting, the regional governor presented the region’s advantages, including its closeness to the Danube River, Romania and Serbia, natural landmarks, cultural and historical monuments. The potential for the development of rural, river, balneological, cultural, festival and congress tourism were discussed, as well as the possibility for the building of a ski slope close to the village of Chuprene.

The regional government addressed the issues they face, including challenges related to infrastructure, the lack of qualified personnel and the need for better logistics to key tourist sites. The need to improve access to the building of Port Vidin, which is currently partially closed, was also discussed, as was the possibility of deploying floating pontoon docks.

Borshosh said at the meeting that Vidin has the potential to turn into a key tourist destination on the Danube. He confirmed the Ministry's commitment to support the initiatives and projects that contribute to tourism and the economic development of the region.
