The European Commission Thursday said it had decided to open infringement procedures by sending letters of formal notice to Bulgaria and 15 Member States (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Hungary, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden) for failing to fully transpose social legislation related to road transport activities, the Commission said.

Member States had until 14 February 2025 to transpose into national law an update of the rules for classifying offences that can result in road transport operators losing their good reputation. The Commission is sending letters of formal notice to the Member States concerned that now have two months to respond and to complete their transposition and notify their measures to the Commission. In the absence of a satisfactory response, the Commission may decide to issue a reasoned opinion.
