At a news briefing in Parliament on Thursday, Joint Governance Council rotating chairperson Kostadin Angelov spoke about the behavior of the Democracy, Rights and Freedoms parliamentary group, with whose support the ruling majority was formed. Attending the briefing were coalition partners There is Such a People (TISP) and BSP-United Left, who together with GERB-UDF called on Democracy, Rights and Freedoms to rethink their behavior. In Angelov's words, that behaviour does not dismantle the model the parliamentary group declare they are fighting against but recreates it. In the future, whether this majority will last and whether other parliamentary groups will accept it, depends on the behavior of Democracy, Rights and Freedoms, Angelov added.
“This government was established as the only possible option for a cabinet, this is a common mandate and responsibility,” Angelov pointed out. “Our main goals are stability of public finances, the eurozone, the law on the state budget, restarting and completing all projects under the Recovery and Resilience Plan,” he added.
Angelov noted that during the government formation talks, Democracy, Rights and Freedoms expressed a desire to create a majority and declared that they did not want any posts. “The model they are talking about is actually their model,” he said.
“Apparently, before the motion of no confidence, we are witnessing the use of strong-arm tactics,” Dragomir Stoynev from BSP-United Left said.
During a vote on new Fiscal Council members earlier in the day, Democracy, Rights and Freedoms nominee Erdoan Ahmedov did not receive the necessary support. Immediately after the vote, at a media briefing, Democracy, Rights and Freedoms, stated that they would convene their collective bodies on Tuesday to discuss the current situation and decide whether to stay or leave the ruling majority.
