Citizens gathered outside the President's administration on Monday to commemorate three years since the start of the war in Ukraine. The event, held under the slogan Peace for Europe and the World through Ukraine's Victory! took place amid heightened police presence.
Participants embarked on a peaceful march to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people and support Bulgaria’s European path. The march started at the President’s administration and ended at the House of Europe, where attendees lit up the area with their mobile phones as a symbol of European unity and resilience. A minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of Russian aggression.
"Europe is strong and can determine what will happen, and we as Bulgarians are at its centre. We defend European values because they are also Ukrainian. Ukraine is part of Europe, and we will fight for that," said Kiril Petkov, Co-chair of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), who was among event attendees.
The security of Ukraine is the security of all of Europe. Only by standing together, strong and determined, can we overcome all challenges and restore a world where lasting peace prevails. We honour those who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's independence, said Olesya Ilashchuk, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria, addressing the gathering.
